Time Wasted

The Toronto sky is not usually very interesting, and mostly starless at night, but lately by sitting through some nights at my east window from sunset to sunrise I've come to appreciate a few things.

First, on an overcast evening, when the sky and the Earth and the city facing into the sunset are briefly all of the same light, the whole scene fades---becomes like a medieval tapestry or something Fauvist, without light, darkness or depth.

Second, these days the moon, almost new, is rising in the mornings above the sun, as if it is a herald. If you catch it just before it's overwhelmed by the day it will please you.
